Kualitas: brrip Tahun: Durasi: 92 Menit Dilihat: 1. Rating: Rating: 4. The Possession. This makes me so disappointed. I found it surprisingly good.
The story follows a broken family. While on visitation with their father, the youngest girl, Emily, purchase a wooden box inscribed with Hebrew carvings.
And, of course, she opens the box and all hell ensues as Emily is possessed by a demon, breaking the family up the family even more and sending the father for help, which brings him to a Hasidic Jewish community in hopes of saving his girl.
Sometimes the pacing is off with the movie. The MRI scan was all I needed to see. Other than that, I would say this is 3.
One person found this helpful. Let me start off by saying I really enjoyed this movie. Even with the subpar effects and - at times - iffy acting this movie really pulls you in and gets you hooked.
I liked the different approach for the evil spirit being a Hebrew spirit instead of the typical European or Asian spirit or demon that you see a lot of these days.
An extra neat thing is that they based this on a real spirit in Jewish lore called a Dybbuk. The writer of the movie claims to have bought a "Dybbuk box" at an estate sale in in the form of a wine box.
Apparently it originally belonged to a Holocaust survivor name Havaleh who escaped to Spain and bought it there before moving to the US.
Havaleh's grand-daughter told Kevin Mannis, the writer, that it was a family heirloom and so he offered to give back to them.
They refused, obviously, because the claimed a Dybbuk was inside. There were a bunch of odd things in the box as well as many strange events that happened to all of the owners including Mannis himself.
If you're interested in more of the history of the Dybbuk box and the story behind it I would highly suggest looking it up and reading about it.
Even just Dybbuks themselves have a lot of interesting lore behind them. It was rather bland. I think it's because the pace was rather slow.
The scares were scarce and brief and not all that scary. The premise had intrigue, it was just realized late into the movie and was anti-climactic.
The effects were passable and the acting was solid by horror movie standards. I would rank it 2. I have no feeling towards liking or disliking it either way.
It was completely average in every aspect. It's not even in the same league as "The Exorcist". That's for damn sure. Then again, what is?
The bottom line here is that my interest in this movie was thinly held in place by me waiting for something to happen. When something did happen, it wasn't a whole hell of a lot.
Genre fans will see the story coming before it ever gets to the end, but don't let that deter you from a great movie. The acting is more-than competent, with all of the cast putting in real emotional work for their characters, and the story while treading familiar ground is a new, unique take than what we typically see.
The CGI is, of course, a bit dated, but that never really detracted from the experience. Most importantly, the feeling of dread and looming suspense is there in every scene, and you'll gasp and recoil along with the actors at all the right points.
I have seen better horror movies, but I have also seen far, far worse. Compared to what gets pumped out every year, this is fairly high-grade in my opinion.
See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Daughter buys an old box from a yard sale. It contains something you wouldn't want to meet in broad daylight, never mind a dark night!
Daughter becomes possessed and the film revolves around Dad's efforts to understand what the heck is going on, and to save his daughter. Another unique idea for this genre.
Modern horror is so much better thanks to much better quality of writing these days, and acting. Report abuse. The Possession is exactly what it says on the tin a possession movie revolving around a dybbuk I think that's how its spelt.
Now I've heard of dybbuks but since they mainly feature in Jewish demonology I don't know much about them so part of this movie entertained me because its unfamiliar territory for me.
Essentially a divorced man purchases this ugly box which his daughter wants from a yard sale, she opens it and thus releases the dybbuk and everything goes downhill from there.
It's a good movie but the one thing that upset me was that this film isn't based on a true story its actually based on the 'allegedly true' story written by a guy who was selling an old wine cabinet for auction on ebay, yes people that's the story, of course if you actually say that the lustre comes right off.
The Possession is, as you have probably guessed, about a young girl who gets possessed by an evil spirit.
Yes, the film is as original as that. However, despite a tired and overused premise, it does have one redeeming feature that makes it worth watching: the characters.
They're nothing special, but I think that's the point. They're just an average separated family who don't overact or try and be too kooky.
They're realistic and believable. Then you have the children. Now, kids in movies are hit and miss at the best of times, let alone when a young actress is expected to act possessed and evil.
Few can do it convincingly, but I think the girl in this has pulled it off. That would be silly. It is however based on a box, somewhere in Eastern Europe that supposedly trapped a demon in it.
Although, despite the characters, it's flaw lies in being little more than an updated Exorcist film. Any movie that deals with possession tends to follow a Three Step process.
Step 1: Disbelief. When the surrounding characters wonder what's up with the possessed soul. Step 2: Research. In most cases, a catholic priest in this case some Jewish Rabbis.
Step 3: Confrontation. The demon must be confronted. Expect plenty of head-twisting and foul language. The characters are well-played enough to elevate it above the numerous similar horror films.
However, it is little more than a present day Exorcist film but there are still a few good and creepy scares along the way.

Taglines: Darkness lives inside. Edit Did You Know? Everyone who acted in this movie did well, even the kids. I would definitely watch this again and recommend.
It was also refreshing to see an exorcism performed by a rabbi, rather than the standard Catholic priest situation.
Baruch Haba, B'shem Adonai! Part 2 Please! For sure the Best Horror I've seen right up with the best of the Best! Yes, it's a great watch.
Don't mind it being a big everything great movie, sit back and let it all unwind. It moves faster than many other top Horror Movies.
I'm going to see if there is one. God Bless Y'all. As good? Probably not, but pretty damn good. And good in a lot of the same ways.
If you've been itching for decades to find something that reminds you of your all-time favorite horror film, give this one a try. But the box still escaped.
One of the best Dybbuk - box movies. And he even came back to his wife and his daughters. But one thing I hate about this movie is that the religious man was killed in the end of the movie in a car crash, carrying the box with him.
This makes me so disappointed. I found it surprisingly good. The story follows a broken family. While on visitation with their father, the youngest girl, Emily, purchase a wooden box inscribed with Hebrew carvings.
