I had no idea that it would make me completely forget about GoT. I have stopped longing for the final season of GoT and only think about two seasons ahead of Vikings.
To be fair, there are some trivial weaknesses in the writing, that I won't get into because of spoilers, that GoT avoids without fail.
In some ways, the show is predictable because it doesn't break the same plot rules the GoT pioneered. However, it does have to cater to certain historical details which makes those shortcomings very forgiving.
This is quite possibly the best television show ever made; I can't believe I only just found out about it. I know there is a large following but I don't understand how it's not everything to everyone.
I'm not being hyperbolic, I love "Vikings". I love Vikings and I was worried how the plot line would continue without Travis Fimmel.
To my surprise several of the characters have become quite interesting. I'm happy to say I'm still hooked.
The acting, the hair, the costumes, the script I can't say enough about this production. It has had me engaged for all seasons and I can't wait until the next.
It's the Game of Thrones in the Viking world - yet mirrors the history that we do know of them in addition to the artistic license that is well within the believable realm.
Just a wonderful series and I hope it never ends. Love this show, cannot wait for the next season. Acting is amazingly convincing, scenes are often intense and intriguing pulling you deeper into the story.
The battle scenes are chaotic and bloody as they should be. It's a great story, although not exactly accurate but worth the time you invest in it.
Vikings is still profoundly addictive entertainment, yet, it suffers from the lack of focus. The storytelling remains compelling, but is simply spread too thin.
Season V part 1 spans geographical parameters from what I presume is Floki in Iceland to Bjorn in the Sahara desert, and everything in between.
All the usual subplots, intrigues, betrayals, tactics, strategies, and battles, plus morre are encapsulated in ten 42 minute episodes.
The wealth of story telling is overwhelming, and in the end, finds the Vikings junkie I am one wanting more, but curiously let down.
The series is, by its name Vikings not Ragnar Lothbrook, but Travis Fimmel as Ragnar provided a focal point no longer available in the series.

Perhaps Ivan the Boneless, with his avowed revenge toward Lagertha, amidst the squabbling among brothers, is supposed to provide central focus for the series, but nonetheless the intimacy the series once provided is being buried by the somewhat overplayed Ivar.
This sis some of the best television I've ever seen, and I've been watching for almost 60 years. I don't care that not every single historical detail is perfect; I already took and aced history in college.
The production, the plots, the writing, the characters, the levels of viewer engagement are absolutely perfect.
Okay, where do I start? On the website they advertised minutes of content, and in fact, there is a DVD with minutes of content; it is the un-edited version.
My local library has it and I watched it and it is kickin'! So when I bought this I thought that was what I was going to get. But no Amazon sent me the minute edited version, which I did not want, so I sent it back.
And I even talked, or should I say "chatted", with someone online, from Amazon, and explained the problem and who ever I was chatting with, in whatever country he was from, told me he totally understood my dilemma and was going to ship out the right minute version asap.
But wait, it gets better, after a couple of days, and after I sent the edited version back, I get a package in the mail.
Whoopee, I thought, now I have the "good" version of season 5, vol 1 of the Vikings for my collection, because I love this show and watch it often; and yes, I do have a life but I like the show.
So I open up the second package and It's the same damn video sent back to me again. I swear, I'm cursed. So if anyone at Amazon ever reads this, just know, you made my blood pressure, which is screwed to begin with, go though the roof!
If anyone reading this has any suggestion, I am open for ideas. I admit it I am an addict. Love the Vikings series. Have watched them all.
We got this season and binged watched them all in 3 nights. I might need to go to V. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.
Well, it's all been said. I wonder how the History Channel can justify its involvement. As far as I am concerned the History Channel has lost credibility.
We're at Season 5 and have long left the realm of history not that there was much of it from the start Kattegat is a settlement?????
And Hedeby Haithabu is in the neighbourhood surrounded by mountains????? Yeah right! However the makers still have the nerve to promote this as a historical drama.
I found myself not caring for almost any of the characters right from the start which is unusual for me and made me feel strangely relaxed.
I was glad when creepy Ragnar and dumb Rollo dropped out. They should have get rid of Lagartha and Bjorn too. Having said that, the reason for me to keep watching is that I liked King Ecbert and Helga.
Oh and I enjoy watching Floki. I very much like how this character has developed, matured and aged as he went through life with all its ups and downs.
Hardly anyone else does! Lagartha was just given a white cheap wig but still looks as young as in episode 1. Gustav Skarsgard is a superb actor and is portraying this wonderful character of Floki so well.
It's such a shame that he is being put aside in little scenes in Iceland now. I wish there was more depth to it. Or rather, I wish the writer had stuck to the real historical events which were quite epic even if the historical Floki had nothing at all to do with the fictional Floki in this show.
Or even better, I wish the writer had kept Floki in the main story. Without him it's all rather dull and boring.
Lagartha is a real pain in the neck these days. And why do Ragnar's sons grimacing so much and have these weird face twitches?
It makes me cringe. I read that part 2 is being released later this year and I find myself no longer interested.
Not even Floki can keep me hanging on anymore and it looks like Rollo is back too to join the terrible cast. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon.

I will definetely be disputing this one till the cows come home!!! Thank you i am very happy with my purchase.
It sucks. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. This is my favorite TV show of all time. I can't get enough of it.
The acting is superb. The sets are wonderful. The music is moving. I just love it. I've not had one moment in the entire show where I was like, "Aww that's just phony, or that's just lame".
Everything has been inspirational. But all those shows have moments where Not here. This show is really worth a watch. Also, the show has opened up an entire new line of music for me that I never knew existed.
Turbulent times continued. Ragnar's sons seem heading in different directions, with opposing beliefs and loyalties.
To remain true to Norse Gods and concepts of battle? To become Christians, seeking peace with those in other lands and settling as farmers?
For crippled Ivar he charismatic and horrible , there is no problem. Declaring himself a God, there will be no mercy for those who defy.
Ten episodes, all somewhat colour drained and violent - at times it hard to work out who is who and exactly what is happening.
The Floki sequences particularly tend to bewilder, his breakaway group now in the most cheerless setting imaginable - barren and rainswept washing on the line somewhat incongruous.
How many understood those final scenes featuring him? Perhaps they are not final after all, there to be a Season 6. Easier to follow are events featuring the young King Alfred, he determined to protect Wessex from volatile neighbouring kingdoms and invading Norsemen.
Joining the cast is Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Bishop Heahmund - a militant Christian who has no problems at all about slaughtering his predecessor at the altar.
Yes, treachery is rampant - mud, blood and carnage much in evidence, not to mention flashbacks and mystical elements. Historically accurate?
