If you were a hard core Dead Like Me fan this will be a great bonus after the fact. Her life is built around cynicism that infuriates her family and anyone else who comes into contact with her.

For me this is like a soap series, but about grim reapers. Most notably, there are plenty of SVOD services that would be unafraid to take a risk on such a niche, dark program and allow it to be developed without heavy studio interference, giving it the space it would need to grow.
George finds a loophole in the Reaper rules and decides to "spare" her next mark, but quickly learns that if you flip-off Fate, Fate flings it right back in your face ten-fold.
Mandy Patinkin is as always wonderful as the lead undead civil servant Reuben. In order to teach George a lesson about taking her role as a grim reaper more seriously, Rube sends her on a difficult mission.

But it really grew on me in the end; I think the second series is even better, come to that. George finds herself in a strange and potentially romantic relationship with a man who can see gravelings while Rube helps Yvonne adapt to life in the new millennium and cope with the fallout of her years of deep sea imprisonment.
The storylines are always fun and interesting and entertaining. She was replaced on that occasion by Morena Baccarin.
I like Rebecca Gayheart a lot and also like the character Betty, so her early departure was initially disappointing. Her performance here is outstanding, as we slowly learn more about the very sad and poignant nature of her character, which she carefully hides beneath a brazen and self-absorbed exterior.
This is just one of several really outstanding performances. The actor and singer Mandy Patinkin is always very watchable and Rube Sofer is another particularly noteworthy character, his relationship with George and the other reapers being one of the many joys to had watching the series.
