It was so great to be directed by an actor too because I felt like Dave gave extra care to the performances. I play a character named Mina Mohammadi who's in one of the two couples that rent a secluded vacation house in the movie.
Mina's a fun character because she may or may not be responsible for some of the horror that ensues. It was supposed to be a perfect weekend getaway, until What was that experience like?
I love working with Shirin and we're actually working together again on her next feature film. Shirin is super collaborative and thoughtful and she creates this wonderful work environment that is very process-orientated and family like.

She often works with the same core group of people too, so there's just so much love and trust built in. I'm really excited for her next feature, which we're planning to shoot as soon as things re-open, because it combines so many of the themes that excite me about Shirin's incredible work, but also because I can't wait to be back in New Mexico with the fam!
Do you seek out avenues that have a platform for sharing your cultural narratives? I'm always happy to represent my cultural background because visibility is so important, but I don't like being solely defined by it.
I'm drawn to lots of different stories for lots of different reasons. How do you balance and navigate different cultures both within acting and in life?
Navigating your different cultures when you're part of a diaspora is a constant balancing act. Especially when you come from two parts of the world that have so much historical friction between them.
But my Iranian-American culture has been much easier to navigate than the culture of Hollywood has been. I try to stay balanced by doing a lot of independent film and theater, where I've found more integrity and more opportunities than I have in other parts of the industry.
How are you taking care of yourself right now in these turbulent times? Well, I'm terrible at taking care of myself, but quarantine has allowed for a little more time and space to work on that.
I've been able to do therapy weekly, which I usually can't with my erratic schedule. That's led to some exciting progress lately. I watch a lot of movies and listen to music when I need a break from everything, and when I feel like the state of the world is consuming me with anger and sadness, I just try to channel it into constructive, actionable steps.
What are you currently manifesting and dreaming towards? On a personal level, I'm trying to manifest more of my own projects.
I'm writing a lot and have finished a wacky video project called Medicinal Music that I'll be self-releasing soon on Instagram. It's a video mixtape that explores some mental health issues caused by life in the Screen Age, and promotes the use of music to energize and heal.
