Gibbs will spend the season recovering, and he is often not quite himself. The rest of the returning cast will have to step up. The season offers a string of interesting episodes, many accompanied by a parade of guest stars, some of whom appear to be auditioning for a more permanent role.
The big news, of course, is that Michael Weatherly as Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo departed the show at season's end, in an intense narrative arc that involved old flame Ziva David, Dinozzo's father played yet again by Robert Wagner , and a significant surprise.
Can't miss this episode, regardless of how you may feel about DiNozzo's departure. Season 13 is highly recommended to its fans.
And unfortunately for me, it was too late to return them. So this is a caution to potential buyers: when you get your order, check it out immediately to make sure everything is what it should be.

During the course of this, we meet Dr. Cyril Taft-who saves Gibbs life and serves as a darker, sometimes comedic confidant for Gibbs in what I thought was an interesting arc for Jon Cryer.
Dinozzo has to deal with the return of Jean Benoit and the final revelation from Ziva. Ducky is reunited with a brother that he thought died years ago in the episode Spinning Wheel.
She also has to revisit the past in the episode 16 years where she may have helped falsely convict a man because of faulty evidence.
Overall, I thought this season tied up a lot of loose ends for long time NCIS fans and gave Dinozzo a respectful finale, while also giving viewers greater insights into these characters by making them probe what makes them tick.
That a show is able to keep a following after thirteen years means they must be doing something right. One person found this helpful.

It certainly cannot be because of Bishop. I was aware that there were changes coming to this series after everything that Gibbs has been through but to hand over the reins to Bishop and let's face it people, this is what CBS has done ; is insulting, degrading and completely out-of-order.
Bishop in charge???? Seriously, I am concerned that this series is slowly dying due to Bishop; just because Gibbs is older, doesn't mean that his gut isn't still on high alert.
I'd like to see more of Dr Taft and so much less of Bishop. Can't CBS kill her off? She won't be missed, believe me, if the Directors and Producers had any respect for Mark Harmon, then they would delete Bishop without a second thought.
I hate to say it, but I'm coming to the end of my tether with this show, unless Bishop goes, I believe that this may well be the end of Gibbs and Co.
And, it will be down to the writers and producers. Shame on you all, do you never listen to your real fans??? NCIS goes from strength to strength, with continually new and interesting storylines.
This season however doesn't finish on a hell of a cliff hanger like some previous but in fact ends on a sad note.
NCIS continues introducing new and interesting characters as well as having appearances from previous series along with what I think is another boat in Gibbs' basement I've lost track.
The series represented the end of an era when another of the main characters leaves after the finale.
I've watched all the other 12 series and this one does not disappoint. Sadly Tony DiNozzo leaves at the end of the last episode but there is a very good and surprising, though sad, reason for this.
Excellent television. As always the NCIS seasons continue to impress. Always good characters and great storylines. I will continue to buy as long as they continue to keep making them.
