Please try again later. Verified Purchase. I read all three of these books and really enjoyed the first two movies. I was excited for this movie to come out but honestly was somewhat disappointed.
I know that in general I think books are better than movies and in this case that could not be more true. This movie really veered away from the book and was so different it really annoyed me.
Now, had I not read the books, I probably would have liked the movie more but I could not get past all of the changes from the book. The cast in the movie was great.
I really love Shailene Woodley and Theo James. I loved them in the first two movies and they were great in this movie. It was just the story line that really bugged me.
So if you haven't read the books, you will most likely enjoy this movie but if you have read the books be ready for some major changes.
I know many didn't like the way the books ended, but I felt like the ending in the books had to happen. So my wife and I thought, "Hey, it's a boring Sunday afternoon, I'm bored, whatever happened to that divergent series?
The actors looked like they didn't care and it showed. I didn't read the book, but wife wife did an apparently they changed the ending which I understand if the ending of the book doesn't adapt well on screen and well, this ending didn't adapt well on screen either so really it's crap on a cracker for the whole movie.
Movie gets 4 stars for being entertaining. I haven't read the books, but I watched this movie when it was released and enjoyed it. The cast does a great job, and the theme to the entire series is relatable.
I found the story to be more apropos to actual society than The Hunger Games, which felt like two separate stories--the games and publicity pieces in those movies serve a purpose, but they do take away from the classist struggle in a way that this series doesn't.
It also deals with these heavy tones in a more watchable and relatable manner, despite the fact that terrible things are happening.
The main characters are still likable, and you don't question their actions as much as you do Katniss, Peeta, or the people in The Maze Runner series.
Listing gets 1 star for false product information. It's definitely going back, unopened. There was no bluray and there was no digital code.
I kind of thought that it might not be bluray because the picture on the website shows a rectangular case. Bluray comes in a blue case with rounded corners.

So there's one more to come. It can only improve on this one, which manages to seem cluttered and empty at the same time.
Sandra Hall. It's not Allegiant so much as Ambivalent, Indulgent and even a little Feculent. Paul Byrnes. By this point, none of the pieces fits and absolutely nothing makes any sense.
Lou Lumenick. A nightmarish landscape that's meant to be frightening - or at least unsettling - ends up being hilariously cheesy instead.
Christy Lemire. Allegiant exemplifies what happens when a book or movie exists solely for the purposes of placating fans and maintaining a revenue stream.
James Berardinelli. These movies were never going to transform cinema, but watching Allegiant, it's hard not to feel as if someone has pulled the rug out from under an otherwise modestly entertaining franchise.
Bilge Ebiri. Gloomy, underwhelming and so dedicated to its mob mentality scenes that you start to feel like maybe you've stumbled into a Trump rally.
Richard Propes. This should be called The Divergent Series: Redundant. Allen Almachar. The Divergent Series: Allegiant has interesting themes and ideas, but absolutely zero clue how to execute them with any depth or insight.
Brent McKnight. Allegiant is a cynical agglomeration of YA and dystopia tropes thrown together with little regard for either sound storytelling or effective world building, which wouldn't be bad if it weren't so boring.
Chris McCoy. The few action scenes involving James and some stimulating visuals earn Allegiant a couple of points on the 10 scale but it has next to nothing else going for it And there's still a fourth installment on the way.
Brandon Davis. Fans of the series seemed to be into it, but we found some scenes did not follow or flow. Linda and Al Lerner.
