If you're in a mood for some wholesome feel-good, you can't do much better than Chesapeake Shores. It's up there with When Calls the Heart and with Heartland in terms of heartwarming, unobjectionable family viewing.

As ever, Abby and Trace's is the core relationship, followed closely by her sisters Bree's and Jess'. In Season 2, to even things out some, the boys in the O'Brien clan get more shine.

But, honestly, maybe there's a good reason they'd not gotten the meaty story arcs. I found myself not as keen following what's up with Kevin and Connor.

Maybe some plot spoilers. Abby and Trace. Their time apart is proving challenging to their rekindled romance, Trace in Nashville recording an album, Abby at Chesapeake, trying to be okay not only with him gone away but gone away with his gorgeous writing partner, Leigh.

I would say that Trace's loyalty gets tested when his band's celebrated producer lets on that he wants Trace as a solo act and Leigh should be cut loose, but there was never doubtin' the stand up in Trace.

Meanwhile, Abby's ex-husband is salty that Trace is spending time with his kids whenever Trace manages to slip away to Chesapeake.

Jess and David. Okay, while I get it that Abby is the lead character, my favorite person in the show is actually impetuous, quirky, super wonderful Jess O'Brien, as played by the stunning Laci J.

Love her mood swings, love her neuroses, love her eyes, love her presence. Love her bed and breakfast, a place that, were it to exist in real life, I would visit in a heartbeat, especially with a wiz of a chef like David fixing up the meals.

Megan's getting the worst of it, seeing as how she was the one who walked out on everyone so long ago.

Jess and Connor are particularly unforgiving. But that's when this show's the most dynamic, when defensive parents and their children of neglect are throwing shade at each other, festering guilt rising like yeast.

Meanwhile, Granny Nell is still saying cringy stuff like "The love shared around the table is far more important than the meal on top of it.

Maybe step into the Wordplay bookstore, or swap out a book from the book exchange station on that street, listen to some good music at the Bridge club which isn't a place where boring card games are played.

Maybe dine at Sally's Cafe. The town's a character in its own right, place is such a visual treat. Like the season before it and the season after it, Season 2 plays out in unsurprising fashion.

Going into this one, you can spot everyone's plot trajectory. But so what? These characters have managed to embed themselves into my heart, and that's an appreciative nod to the cast, yep, even the guy who plays Connor.
